What does 如何呢?又能怎 mean?

如何呢?又能怎 is a carefree shrug in words. People say it about failed exams, criticism at work, bad luck or anything they cannot change, as if to say 'so what, it is what it is'. The tone is playful and slightly cheeky rather than bitter, which is why young people use it to take the edge off stress. It is a little different from 摆烂: you are not giving up, you are just refusing to let the problem ruin your mood. The phrase is often quoted on its own, or with a sing-song rhythm that echoes the song it came from.

Where does 如何呢?又能怎 come from?

It comes from singer 单依纯 (Shan Yichun)'s bold rearrangement of 李荣浩 (Li Ronghao)'s song 《李白》 on the competition show 《歌手2025》 (Singer 2025) in June 2025. Her version added references to the game Honor of Kings, in which Li Bai is a playable hero, and repeated the line 'how about it? what can be done?'. Clips spread quickly across Bilibili and Xiaohongshu, and the phrase made the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center's list of top internet buzzwords for 2025.
