What does 666 mean?

In Chinese internet culture 666 has nothing to do with evil. 六 (liù, six) sounds like 溜 (liù, smooth/skillful), so 666 means "so smooth", "so skilled" — like typing "nice!" or "GG WP". Viewers spam 666 in live-stream chats when a streamer makes a great play. It can also be sarcastic when someone messes up badly.

Where does 666 come from?

It started in gaming and live-streaming chat (danmaku) in the mid-2010s and spread across the whole Chinese internet. Variants include 6 (short), 66666 (extra enthusiastic) and 老铁666 ("bro, that's awesome").

How to use 666
