What does 凡尔赛 mean?

凡尔赛 (or 凡尔赛文学, "Versailles literature") is when someone shows off their wealth, looks or success in a fake-modest way, e.g. "Ugh, my boyfriend bought the wrong color of sports car again." Calling a post 凡尔赛 means you see through the humblebrag. 凡学 is a shortened form.

Where does 凡尔赛 come from?

The name refers to the Japanese manga "The Rose of Versailles", set in the luxurious French court. It became a viral meme in late 2020 after a Weibo blogger's posts full of disguised boasting were shared widely as examples of the style.
