What does 情绪价值 mean?
情绪价值 is the emotional payoff you get from someone or something: feeling happy, comforted, understood or praised. People say a partner, friend, pet, product or even a boss 'gives' (给) or 'provides' (提供) emotional value, and 情绪价值拉满 means 'maxed out'. The opposite complaint is that someone 'gives zero emotional value', for example a partner who never responds to your feelings. It can be sincere, but it is also used half-jokingly, as if feelings were a resource being traded, and some people push back against treating relationships like a transaction.
Where does 情绪价值 come from?
The term started out in marketing, where it described the emotional benefit a customer gets beyond a product's practical use. From around 2023 it moved into everyday talk about dating, friendship and work. It appeared on 《咬文嚼字》's top ten buzzwords for 2023, and later on the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center's list of top internet buzzwords for 2025.
